ISAIAH 53 in new translation and annotations by Hermann Hain

Welcome to Isaiah 53, the most important text for healing. (This part in English is published separately as http://isaiah53.jimdo.com.)I love him more than any other in the bible. For many years I have studied Isaiah 53 in German and Original languages. The result is a new translation with annotations - it is the German part of this website - especially for people, who are interesting to hear about new insights, but are not able to read in Hebrew or Greek. An English translation of important parts is in preparation. TRANSLATION of Isaiah 53 is finished. Annotations are subdivide in Isaiah 52:13-15 and 53:1-5 and 53:6-12. Until now "ANNOTATIONS" and "JESUS, SERVANT OF JHWH" are not translated. Only "CONTACT" is ready for use.

Isaiah 53 is in Hebrew and the annotations to Isaiah 53 are results of studies of the Hebrew text. But the Servant of the LORD is Jesus. Isaiah 53 describes the cross. This result remains to be the only explanation with persuasive power. JESUS, SERVANT OF JHWH will explain it.

By citations of the Bible in the English part will be often used: The Holy Bible: New International Version 1984. Grand Rapids: Zondervan. Always the Hebrew or Greek text will be compared. Abbreviation: NIV. Sometimes I compare with the King James Version (Abbreviation KJV). Deviations from these English Translations usually will be marked. If these translations do not take my pleasure, I will make translations by myself.

My own translation of Isaiah 53 is marked by "HH" and will be the first in the annotations. After that follows NIV, then KJV, then explanations and comparing of the 3 translations. To every verse this will be the same action. By individual Scripture passages following these verses I feel free to choose the translation I prefer. NIV will be my first orientation.

LXX is the usual abbreviation for the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Jewish Scriptures, the Hebrew Old Testament. In Isaiah 53 the abbreviation is used. This translation is very important, because it is the most ancient translation and was more frequently used by the writer of the New Testament than the Hebrew text, because the NT is also written in Greek language.

JHWH is the proper name of God in the Tanach, the Jewish Hebrew bible. The holy Tetragrammaton is in English bibles often rendered by LORD. The real pronunciation may be Yahweh (Jahwe).

The following picture shows the Qumran Great Isaiah Scroll in Isaiah 53:10. Possibly my reading "in truth" is here supported. Using "mem", but not "mem sofit", indicates clearly, the preposition "if" can not be the reading of the scroll. Readings of mem sofit, the final mem, you can compare on the left of the marked letter. There are two words on the left, separated by a space. A short space is also directly on the left of the marked letter. If the writer of Qumran intends this space, writing of the ordinary mem will be only an error by the writer, because the beginning of a new word is indicated and final mem is forced. Final mem is used in the two words on the left in the final letter (it is always the letter on the left of the word, because Hebrew is writing from right to left!). Because the space is relatively small, possibly the ordinary mem is not an error, the next letter is belonging to it and builds the Hebrew "truth". In Psalm 132:11 "truth" builds the beginning of a new thought ("The LORD has sworn unto David: [in] truth, he will not turn from it..."). It is the same construction as in Isaiah 53:10.
